Electrical Estimator


  • Production of design/quantities for sub-contract and material enquiries.
  • Create and send out sub-contract and material enquiries.
  • Liaise with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to gather cost information.
  • Analyse and verify sub-contract quotations
  • Develop cost estimates by analysing the materials needed to complete a project.
  • Factor in any cost of wasted materials and any possible delays in the project.
  • Review bid proposals, blueprints, and specifications and confirm all details material requirements.
  • Review job costs and any related overages and underages to avoid any repetition of errors.
  • Accurately assess the amount and cost of electricity required for a building or process.
  • Analyse the costs in relevant databases (or excel), address any discrepancies and discuss alternative cost-saving measures.

Person Specification

  • Competent in the preparation of estimates from inception through to completion without assistance or guidance.
  • Background in electrical system design, electrical take-offs and load calculations.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills are essential to effectively lead employees and negotiate with vendors and contractors.
  • Ability to prioritise their workload.
  • Ability to apply numerical skills to analyse data, interpreting facts and figures presented in the form of statistical tables.
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate / accessible and organised documentation.
  • Understanding and analysing mechanical, structural, architectural and other related drawings and schematics is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is highly desirable.
  • General knowledge of common software applications is preferred, as is experience with estimating software.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of HNC/HND or equivalent vocational qualifications
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Experience in electrical construction as well as knowledge of current local material and labour costs is crucial to this role.
  • Knowledge of rail projects would be beneficial but not essential
