Spencer Group Begins Major Maintenance Work on Gliberdyke (Slipper) Bridge

On 1st June 2015, Spencer Group began major maintenance work on Gilberdyke (Slipper) Bridge, to maintain its structural integrity and prevent deterioration.

The works, on behalf of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, include re-painting, concrete repairs, joint repairs and bearing replacements. Despite the works, Spencer will keep Slipper Bridge open to all vehicles, cause minimal disruption to traffic and uninterrupted trains.

Speaking ahead of the June 1st start, James Barnes, Spencer Project Manager, said: “Even though this contract is only 5 months long, it will be a vital piece of work for sustaining the future of the bridge and ensuring the safety of the railway.”

Slipper Bridge was constructed circa 1930 and carries the B1230 over the railway between Hull and Selby. The bridge location is close to the village of Gilberdyke, which is approximately 18 miles from Hull.

This contract forms part of the ERYC sustainability, pro-active and ongoing maintenance programme for the region.
